Track leads & customers from SEO in GoHighLevel

Learn the 4 simple steps for tracking how many leads & customers you get from SEO in GoHighLevel

High Level - Affiliates (1)

There are over 8.5 billion searches conducted on Google every day, and research shows that SEO has one of the lowest average costs per lead at $31 (compared to $811 for tradeshows).

That’s a lot of potential leads you could be acquiring for a low cost per lead.

But if you invest in SEO, how will you know how many leads and customers you’re generating?

In this article, we’ll show you how to use a tool called Attributer to capture organic search data with each new contact in GoHighLevel. This will allow you to see exactly how many leads and customers your SEO efforts are generating.

4 steps to track leads & customers from SEO in GoHighLevel

Attributer and GoHighLevel make it simple to track the number of leads generated from organic search. Let's look at how it works:

1. Install Attributer and add hidden fields

Step 2

When you sign up for a 14-day free trial of Attributer, you will receive a small snippet of code to add to your website. You can learn how to add it here.

After placing the code on your site, you then need to include some hidden fields in your lead capture forms. These hidden fields are:

  • Channel
  • Channel Drilldown 1
  • Channel Drilldown 2
  • Channel Drilldown 3
  • Landing Page
  • Landing Page Group

Adding hidden fields to your forms can be pretty straightforward with the right form-building tools. You can usually either drag and drop a “Hidden” field in to your form, or sometimes you can hide a regular field using the available settings. If you require detailed guidance for tools such as Gravity Forms, Wix Forms, or Webflow Forms, you can see the step-by-step guides here.

2. Attributer writes SEO data into the hidden fields

Completed Fields - SEO (1)

When a visitor comes to your site, Attributer collects information to help identify their source (the same things Google Analytics looks at).

It then categorises the visitor into various channels, such as Organic Search, Paid Search, or Paid Social, and stores that information in their browser for future reference.

Then when visitors complete a form on your site, like your 'Contact Us' or 'Request a Quote' form, Attributer writes this data into the hidden fields.

3. SEO data is captured with each lead

New Form Submission - SEO

When the visitor submits a form on your site, the data that Attributer wrote into the hidden fields is captured by your form tool (alongside the information the lead entered into the form, like their name, email, etc).

4. SEO data is sent to GoHighLevel

Contact Record in Mobile - SEO

If you are using GoHighLevel's built-in form builder, then the data that Attributer wrote into the hidden fields will automatically appear on the Contact record.

If you're using a third-party form builder however (like Gravity Forms, Typeform, etc), then you'll need to send the data into GoHighLevel. This can be done using the built-in integration (if one exists) or integration tools like Zapier or Make.

What data gets captured

Attributer provies two bits of information about how a lead found you: the Channel through which they arrived at your site and the specific content that caught that attracted them there (I.e. their landing page)

For example, if you work in the marketing team for a company that manufactures custom windows & doors. If someone comes to your site by clicking an organic result in Google, here's what information you would receive:

  • Channel = Paid Search
  • Channel Drilldown 1 = Google
  • Channel Drilldown 2 =  www.google.com (or the domain they came from, like google.com.au or google.co.uk)
  • Channel Drilldown 3: Custom windows in Sydney (or the keyword they searched for, when it’s available)

You would also get data on what page they landed on. Continuing the example above, it might look a bit like this:

  • Landing Page = daviswindows.com/blog/best-windows-sydney
  • Landing Page Group = /blog

This landing page information can help you identify which content on your website draws in potential leads from organic searches, so you can create more of it.

3 example reports you can run when you capture organic search data in GoHighLevel

During my 15-year career in marketing, I have spent thousands of hours working on SEO and run hundreds of reports to track the impact of our efforts.

I have shared a few reports I have found to be super useful over the years to try and help you out!

1. Leads by Channel

Leads By Channel (Organic Search Focus)

This report provides an overview of the number of leads generated each month broken down by the channel they came from, including Organic Search, Paid Search, and Paid Social.

It gives you a high-level overview of your SEO efforts and whether they are generating more leads for your business.

It is also useful to compare SEO to other channels. For instance, if you notice you get more leads from Organic Search than Paid Search, it might be worth reallocating some budget and ramping up your SEO efforts.

2. Customers from Organic Search by Landing Page Group

Customers from SEO by Landing Page Group (1)

This report shows the number of new customers acquired monthly through organic search, grouped by the landing page (Home, Blog, Services, etc.).

It helps you understand which content attracts the most customers from organic search and can help you refine your content and SEO strategy.

3. Revenue from Organic Search by Landing Page

Revenue from SEO by Landing Page (1)

This report shows you the number of new customers and the amount of revenue acquired through organic search, broken down by the exact content piece they came from.

It offers a valuable overview of which blog posts and other content are performing well, enabling you to make informed decisions about which content to create moving forward.

How Attributer helped Flare HR 4x the number of leads they got from SEO

Flare HR is a HR management software provider based in Sydney, Australia.

Within their product they have hundreds of HR document templates that they make available to their customers, like employment agreement templates, mobile phone policy templates, etc.

In an attempt to increase website traffic and leads, they decided to make these templates publicly available on their marketing site with the hope they would rank on search engines.

However they had a problem. Although tools like Google Analytics showed them how many website visitors these templates were driving, they weren’t really able to track whether they were converting into leads & customers.

That’s where Attributer came in.

When someone landed on the Flare HR site, Attributer captured information on where they came from. This included the channel (like Organic Search), the landing page (i.e. flarehr.com/templates/mobile-phone-policy) and the landing page group (i.e. /templates).

Then when a visitor completed a form on their website (like their demo request form), Attributer would pass all of this data through to their CRM.

The Flare HR team then used this data to create detailed reports in their CRM that showed the number of leads coming from the templates, the conversion rates to actual customers, and the revenue that followed. They saw that this template initiative had led to a 2.4x increase in new leads generated each month, all at a ridiculously low cost per lead (basically $0).

Excited by these results, Flare HR decided to invest further in it. They upped the number of templates available and optimised their pages to rank better in search engines. Ultimately through this initiative, they were able to 4x the number of leads they got each month.

“Attributer showed us that our SEO efforts were in fact generating customers & revenue and gave us the confidence to double down. We’ve seen a 4x increase in leads as a result”
