Track how many leads you get from Affiliates in GoHighLevel
Learn how to track how many leads and customers you get from Affiliates in GoHighLevel
Keeping track of the leads and customers generated by your Affiliates can be a bit tricky. While tools like Google Analytics are great for tracking website visitors, they don't give you info on leads and customers.
But don't worry, we have a solution.
By using Attributer you can capture data affiliate data with each form submission and send it to GoHighLevel.
This means you can create reports to see exactly how many leads your Affiliates bring in, determine which affiliates generate the most customers, and much more.
In this article, we'll guide you through capturing affiliate data in GoHighLevel and show you some sample reports that will help you understand the performance of your affiliate program.
3 simple steps to track how many leads & customers you get from Affiliates in GoHighLevel
With the help of Attributer, you can track how many leads and customers you're getting from your affiliate program. Here's how it works:
1. Add UTM parameters to your affiliate links
When you share links with your affiliates, you should be including UTM parameters. For example, if you wanted them to send traffic to attributer.io/integrations/gohighlevel, then it's important to make sure that the link contains UTM parameters so you can effectively track and analyse the traffic.
The link should look a bit like this:
attributer.io/integrations/gohighlevel?utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=bloggers&utm_campaign=john-smith
Customising the UTMs allows you to gather specific data about your affiliates. We highly recommend using something similar to the following:
- UTM_Medium = Affiliates
- UTM_Source= Bloggers (or the type of affiliate this is, such as bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, etc.)
- UTM_Campaign= John-Smith (or the name of the specific affiliate)
Platforms like Trackdesk or Rewardful can simplify the process of adding UTM parameters by automatically adding them to the links your affiliates receive.
Alternatively, you can use our free UTM builder, which provides affiliate-specific templates for creating and sharing UTM-tagged links with your affiliates.
2. Add hidden fields to your forms
The next step is to include a series of hidden fields within the forms on your website, like those on your Contact Us or Request a Quote page.
You should include the following hidden fields:
- Channel
- Channel Drilldown 1
- Channel Drilldown 2
- Channel Drilldown 3
- Landing Page
- Landing Page Group
Many widely utilised form-building tools, such as Gravity Forms and Typeform, offer convenient methods for integrating hidden fields into your forms. You can find comprehensive, step-by-step guides for over 50 frequently utilised form builders right here.
3. Attributer writes the affiliate data into the hidden fields
When someone comes to your website using ann affiliate link, Attributer saves the UTM parameters in the user's browser. This means they can take their time looking around your site (and even leave and return later) and the UTM parameters from their original visit will be remembered.
Then when these visitors decide to fill out a form on your website, Attributer writes the affiliate info (from the tracking parameters) into hidden fields in the form automatically.
4. Affiliate data is captured and sent to GoHighLevel
When someone submits a form on your website, the data that Attributer wrote into the hidden fields is captured by your form tool and can be sent to GoHighLevel.
If you're using GoHighLevel forms then there's nothing else you need to do, the data will automatically appear on the contact record in your account.
If you are using a third-pary form builder (like Gravity Forms, Typeform, etc) then you'll need to send the data across using something like Zapier.
What data gets captured in GoHighLevel?
Attributer is designed to retrieve data from the UTM parameters. This means that whatever information you include in the UTM parameters, such as the affiliate's name, affiliate category, etc. will be captured and sent to GoHighLevel.
We recommend including the following information in your UTM parameters:
- UTM_Medium = Affiliates
- UTM_Source= Bloggers (or the type of affiliate this is, such as bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, etc.)
- UTM_Campaign= John-Smith (or the name of the specific affiliate)
Then the following information would be captured in GoHighLevel:
- Channel = Affiliates
- Channel Drilldown 1 = Bloggers
- Channel Drilldown 2 = John Smith
But that's not all. Attributer actually captures the source of ALL your leads, not just those from your affiliate program.
So if someone came to your site from an organic Google search, this is what would get captured:
- Channel = Organic Search
- Channel Drilldown 1 = Google (or the name of the search engine they came from)
- Channel Drilldown 2 = www.google.com.au (or the Google domain they came from)
- Channel Drilldown 3 = Olmo Software (or whatever the keyword they used to find your business is, when available)
3 example reports you can run when you capture affiliate data in GoHighLevel
Before I started Attributer, I had the chance to lead marketing teams at various different companies. I spent a lot of my time analysing where our leads and customers came from and developing strategies to reach more people.
I have included below three sample reports that helped me see how my affiliate marketing efforts were making a difference.
1. Leads by Channel
Attributer allows you to track the source of all leads, including those outside of your affiliate program.
This means you can generate reports (like the one above) that show how many leads you are getting from each channel.
This data can empower you to make well-informed decisions about what's working and what isn't, and what you can do to grow.
2. Customers by Affiliate Type
This report summarises the number of new customers that have been generated through your affiliate program. It breaks them down into different categories based on the types of affiliates who refer them, like bloggers, YouTubers, podcasters, and social media influencers.
By figuring out which types of affiliates are bringing in the most customers, you can get some valuable insights that will help you make intelligent decisions when recruiting new affiliates.
3. Revenue by Affiliate
This report is helpful for evaluating how well your affiliates are doing and making smart decisions to improve your program.
For instance, you might be able to interview your top-performing affiliates to see what they're doing and then impart some of that wisdom on your lower-performing affiliates to help them.
Wrap Up
Using Attributer to capture the UTM parameters you put behind your affiliate links and send them to Salesforce is a great way to understand how many leads & customers your affiliate program is driving.
